Dr. Ziyad Abdulkarim

Dr. Ziyad Abdulkarim is an oral and dental surgeon with about 20 years of experience. His field covers dental surgery and implants, simple and surgical extractions, impacted-tooth extraction and laser gum surgery, as well as fixed prosthetics and veneers. He has supervised more than 1,000 dental implant surgeries.

Dr. Ziyad plans a surgical extraction on a digital panoramic X-ray taken in the clinic. An impacted wisdom tooth may not be visible in the mouth; the X-ray shows its roots, the direction in which it is growing and how close it lies to the nerve, and he chooses the method of removal on that basis. The extraction is carried out under local anaesthetic, and nitrous-oxide (laughing-gas) sedation is available alongside the anaesthetic; the dentist decides on its use according to the patient’s health and level of anxiety. A healthy wisdom tooth that has come in straight and is easy to clean may not need removing, and can be monitored at routine check-ups.

Dr. Ziyad carries out dental implant treatment, including immediate implants in suitable cases, where the implant is placed in the socket straight after the tooth is removed. An immediate implant needs enough bone, healthy gums and no active infection at the site, so it does not suit every case; the dentist assesses this by examination and X-ray. He also works in fixed prosthetics (crowns and bridges) and veneers: the dental prostheses he has completed exceed 10,000, and he has designed more than 1,000 veneers. He uses the dental laser to trim and contour the gums where the gum line is uneven or the gum covers more of the tooth than usual.
