Dr. Mohammed Abdullah

Dr. Mohammed Abdullah has worked in preventive and restorative dentistry for about 15 years. His field includes acute tooth pain, advanced root canal treatment and the re-treatment of root canals that were not successful the first time, as well as fillings and prosthetics. He has carried out more than 4,000 documented successful root canal treatments.

Root canal treatment aims to keep the natural tooth: under local anaesthetic the dentist removes the inflamed or damaged nerve from inside the tooth, then cleans, shapes, disinfects and seals the root canals. Dr. Mohammed uses motor-driven rotary instruments to clean and shape the canals, and a dental laser where appropriate to help disinfect them. Suitable cases are completed in a single visit, while an active abscess, swelling or complex canals may need two visits or more; the dentist decides this after the examination and X-ray. Not every tooth can be treated this way: if a fracture extends into the root, or too little of the tooth is left to build a crown on, keeping it may not be possible.

Dr. Mohammed carries out re-treatment on a tooth that has had root canal treatment before and has become painful again, or that shows inflammation at the root on an X-ray. Inflammation may return if bacteria remain in a canal that was not cleaned, or leak into it. The dentist removes the old filling material from the canals, then cleans, disinfects and seals them again, and decides after the examination and X-ray whether the tooth can be kept. Dr. Mohammed also restores teeth with restorative and cosmetic fillings and with prosthetics, including the filling or crown a tooth may need after a root canal to protect it from fracture. He has completed more than 10,000 cosmetic fillings and more than 2,000 prosthetic cases.
